About Sierra
At Sierra, we’re creating a platform to help businesses build better, more human customer experiences with AI. We are primarily an in-person company based in San Francisco, with growing offices in Atlanta, New York, and London.
We are guided by a set of values that are at the core of our actions and define our culture: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and Family. These values are the foundation of our work, and we are committed to upholding them in everything we do.
Our co-founders are Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor. Bret currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI. Previously, he was co-CEO of Salesforce (which had acquired the company he founded, Quip) and CTO of Facebook. Bret was also one of Google's earliest product managers and co-creator of Google Maps. Before founding Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. Earlier, he started and led Google’s AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. Before that, Clay led the product and design teams for Google Workspace.
Why It's a Rocketship
Why It's a Rocketship
Founded by Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor, Sierra entered the market with exceptional founder credibility and quickly raised capital at premium valuations. Taylor’s background as co-CEO of Salesforce, CTO of Facebook, and current Chairman of OpenAI has provided Sierra with a level of access and signal that few startups achieve this early. That network has translated into real distribution, with enterprise brands such as WeightWatchers, SiriusXM, Sonos, and AG1 already deploying Sierra’s platform in production.
Founded in 2023, Sierra quickly crossed $20 million in ARR as of October 2024. The product centers on intelligent, on-brand AI agents that handle customer interactions across chat and voice. Where most legacy systems rely on rigid scripts or post-handoff automation, Sierra aims to deliver consistent, high-quality service using agents that surface real context from internal systems while minimizing model hallucinations. The platform integrates with existing tools and allows companies to customize agent behavior and tone to match their brand. Early customers are reporting strong gains in both satisfaction scores and agent productivity, with noticeable improvements in cost per interaction.
While the market for AI-powered customer support is increasingly competitive, Sierra’s early traction reflects a meaningful advantage in credibility, access, and positioning. If the product continues to evolve in step with customer needs and can maintain technical reliability at enterprise scale, Sierra is well positioned to define this next chapter of intelligent, customer-facing software.
